February Book Club

It's that time again...Book Club!  February's book was Once Upon A Secret by Mimi Alford.

I would say that for the most part everyone was appalled at Mimi's story.  The gist of it is, if you haven't heard already, that she was an intern at the White House when she was 19.  During this time she had an extended affair with JFK that lasted pretty much until he was assassinated.  She says numerous times in the book that she knows that he didn't love her and that's she's a footnote to a footnote in the history books, but she feels no guilt or remorse for what she did and enjoyed what she had with him.  The second half of the book focuses on the impact of the affair on her marriage months later and the type of adult she became.

She may have been annoying, but she did shed some interesting light on President Kennedy, encouraging a lot of us to do a bit of research on what he was like.  Overall, most of us would recommend the book as a very interesting, easy read.  Next month, we're going classic with Persuasion by Jane Austen.
