Have I Got An Idea For You

If you have a friend having a baby, then do I have a suggestion for you.  Of course, right off the bat, I suggest that you give these burp cloths that I made right before Lila was born.  You can make a lot of them in a little bit of time for a little bit of cash, and they are super necessary because babies have amazing super powers of spitting up.

But for just the same small amount of time and small amount of cash, I suggest that you make a nursing cover.  All of you need is a yard of fabric and some boning to make the top part stick out a bit so the mommy can see the baby, or for me, so that I can give Lila the stink eye when she tries to rip off the cover and successfully expose me to the hip dude sitting across from me at the coffee shop, who leaves a few minutes later.  Hey, I didn't say these were completely baby proof.

Here's a great tutorial that I've followed to make these nursing covers.  The tutorial suggests a set of D rings as well, but I prefer the least amount of stuff hanging around my neck as possible, so I just sew a non-adjustable strap.  All in all this takes about thirty minutes and is a very useful item.

And Another Pinterest Craft

After spending some time this morning snooping around Pinterest, I found this tutorial for how to make fancy burp cloths.  I have a ton of scrap fabric, so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

It turns out that these were extremely easy and only took about 20 minutes a piece to make.  They were also extremely free because Johnny's mom had already given me these burp cloths that she found at a garage sale, and I already had all of the fabric.  Best kind of craft there is.

Now we're ready for all kinds of spit up.

Two for One

Actually it's more like two for two because I got behind one day.  For Wednesday, I am thankful for crafts. Yes, laugh all you want, but I love having the time and ability to take a bunch of scraps and make something fun, like this wreath.

I took a bunch of scrap fabrics from quilts that I had made (Meriahna and Sydney had fun picking out patterns they recognized from pajamas and quilts that I had made them).  Then I cut the scraps into strips about  1.5in by 5in, give or take.

Using an old wreath frame from Hobby Lobby, I individually tied the strips onto the frame with single knots.

Push all the knots together, and eventually, you get a wreath!

And for November 10, I am thankful for living close to family.  Johnny and I had my cousin Melody and her husband Brett over for dinner last night.  It's really fun to have grown up together and now be living near each other, knowing that our kids will get to grow up together too...though they need to hurry up and have a cousin for Baby Hutson.
