We're Goin' To The Zoo, Zoo, Zoo

After looking at the weather forecast for the day and seeing that it would be in the upper 50s, we decided to spend the afternoon at the Kansas City Zoo.  This was our first official family outing doing a family outing type thing...besides going to Costco that is.

Lila got to see polar bears, which she immediately called "puppies."  To this Johnny replied, "Those aren't puppies.  They could rip your face off; they could eat you whole."

To the tiger at the zoo, Lila said, "Poo poo!"

There was the sweetest baby orangutan swinging around the orangutan exhibit.  His daddy was the hugest orangutan I have ever seen.  He heard somebody behind the employee's door and just hung all 1,000 pounds of himself right in front of it, waiting to attack and escape I suppose.  Rise of the Planet of the Apes anyone?

But that little baby monkey was so sweet.  He came over to his mama and snuggled in her lap, holding her hand.  I almost cried.

After the monkeys it was on to Australia where we saw kangaroos hanging out in a field, and Johnny got to pet a sheep.  He proceeded to explain to Lila that we get sweaters by cutting off the sheep's hair and wearing it.

Even though it was in the 50s, the wind was pretty brutal, so we took a brief repose in the tropical exhibit and saw more monkeys and some otters.  You can't see the otters in this picture, but I thought it was very cute to see Johnny and Lila looking so intently at them playing.

After the tropics, it was back out into the wind and on to Africa.  We got to see a few elephants, but I don't think Lila knew what we were looking at because she kept staring at a log on the ground.

We didn't make it the rest of the way through Africa, but we were sure to see Johnny's Grammie's favorite flamingos before we left.

Lila was a trooper throughout the whole trip.  She even kept her mittens on most of the time.

Socks, on the other hand (or shall I say "foot"), are another story.  When we got home, I decided to gather all of the socks from around her carseat.  I found eight single socks and two matching pairs.  Ridiculous.
